Bienvenidos estudiantes—welcoming new SOU students from Guanajuato

On February 22, about 30 Ashland Amigo Club members met in the home of Jay Ach and Karen Grove—club vice-president and web mistress—to welcome the three new students who received Amigo Club scholarships to travel from the Universidad de Guanajuato to study at Southern Oregon University (SOU). Also attending were the two students from Guanajuato who are studying for a year at Ashland High School.

Everyone enjoyed conversations, empanadas from Caba Empanadas (https://www.cabaempanadas.com/), and drinks of tequila-based Paloma cocktails and non-alcoholic alternatives.

After socializing for 45 minutes, President Jay Tapp made announcements of upcoming club events and introduced the three Guanajuato students. Isaac Aaron Quintamilla Melgar and Monica Herrera Zamora are both studying music—they entertained the audience with their superb skills on cello and violin. Dana Paola Prieto Salazar, who is studying Business Administration, talked with the group about her experiences after one month in Ashland—they were very positive, of course.

Amigo Club members welcomed the opportunity to get together with other Amigos and to meet the new Guanajuato students. Our visiting Amigos always enrich our community with their skills and warm personalities. We look forward to more events during their stay in Ashland.

Here are some photos of the event. All photos are by Jay Ach.
